The Handbook for Postgraduate Students is intended both for those who are thinking about starting postgraduate studies and also students who have already begun these programmes. The Handbook contains most of the information you need about your rights and obligations and the conditions that apply to postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate education at Karolinska Institutet contains full time studies for four years for the doctorate degree and two years for the licentiate degree. The student participates in an ongoing research project during the major part of postgraduate education. The project is selected by the student, together with the thesis supervisor. The student should also participate in postgraduate courses as stated in the study plan (at least 20 credit points) for the postgraduate study subject.
